Frightfully Fun!
Amidst the witches, superheros and fairies an important message was sent to the families of Carlsbad who participated in the 13th annual downtown Trick or Treat and Fall Festival. The Coalition was given the opportunity to talk about simple steps that parents can utilize regarding proper disposal and storage of prescription drugs. These steps include; 1) Use a lockbox to store medications, 2) Dispose of medications in kitty litter or coffee grounds, 3) Never flush medications as it gets into the communities water supply and 4) Never refer to medications as candy to children.
Teens Think Drinking on MySpace, Facebook Is Real
October 30, 2009 02:58 PM ET | Nancy Shute |
Teenagers spend lots of time on MySpace, Facebook, and other social media sites talking about what they do. Often that talk is about underage drinking, risky sexual activity, and violence. But does it describe their actual activities, or is it just bragging?

Who's Hungry?
"I don't want to eat my vegetables!" I remember making that statement as a child when presented with the dreaded green beans and carrots. At the time, I didn't appreciate the blessing. Of course now I realize how important the availability and accessibility of food is to the people of Carlsbad. Are you hungry in the spirit of helping others in the community? Providing a sustainable resource such as homegrown vegetables is just one of the goals for the creation of a local community garden.
Got pills?
The Coalition's new Rx drug abuse prevention initiative officially kicked off on 01 Oct. Attached is a new publication we are using to raise awareness of proper prescription drug storage and disposal. We hear an overwhelming amount of information from high school students that these drugs are popular and commonly sold in class. PLEASE do your part to learn and get these dangerous substances out of kids' hands. That starts with living the example of not using prescribed drugs for off-label uses yourself.
