Carlsbad Community Anti-Drug/Gang Coalition recently gained national recognition as one of “100 Pioneers for Smoking Cessation.”  The 100 Pioneers program is sponsored by the US Department of Health & Human Services’ Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration.  It provides training and technical assistance for tobacco cessation, with a focus on people with mental illness and/or drug addiction.  The Coalition is partnering with Carlsbad Mental Health Center (CMHC), which has existing progra

In our travels about town, Coalition Preventionist Alison Bryant and I have heard, far too often and from people of all ages, a theme of "fear of retaliation" for reporting crime.  We have also heard a number of incredible, inspiring true stories of crimes that were resolved, or busts that were made following a series of crimes, with one citizen's simple tip as a turning point in the case.
