WHOOMP they did it again

The following is a Pecos Valley Drug Task Force press release:

On the morning of March 7, 2013 Agents of the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force located Robert Martinez in a room at the Continental Inn located at 3820 National Parks Highway. Martinez had a Federal Arrest warrant for Possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance to wit: Heroin, and Carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime. After a short standoff Martinez came out of the motel room and was arrested without incident.

Pecos Valley Drug Task Force honored for dealer round-up

On Feburary 28, 2013, Agents of the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force, Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration were honored by the United States Department of Justice District of New Mexico for a joint operation called “Operation Chingobling.” US Attorney Kenneth Gonzales presented this award.

Rx Drug Take-Backs: Coming Right Up!

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Sat. Sept. 29, 10 AM to 2 PM. There will be a drive-up, drop-off booth staffed by Eddy County Sheriff's Office at the Eddy County Courthouse, intersection of Stevens and Canyon Streets.

Another Rx take-back will occur on Sat. 06 October, 8 AM to 2 PM at Lake Carlsbad Beach. This one is held in conjunction with household hazardous waste disposal day. There is NO personal information collected from people for the drug drop-off.

The class is free and open to anyone wanting to attend.

Urgent Warning to Parents About Marijuana and IQ Damage

Excerpt from Narconon.org, flagged for us by Eddy County Extension Agent Woods Houghton--

A new report reveals that young people risk lowered intelligence if they start smoking marijuana early in their teens.

Now there's concrete evidence that young people risk lasting damage if they are frequent abusers of marijuana. A long-term study that followed 1000 New Zealanders from birth through age 38 found that those who started smoking marijuana in their teens lost an average of eight IQ points later in life.

23 NNO block parties later....

As usual I'm late with my National Night Out thank you letters....though still very grateful to the party hosts and first responders who made all those 23 or so block parties happen. The med lock-box giveaway and safety talk by Carlsbad Fire and Eddy County Sheriff's Office personnel was a big hit; I'm still hearing great stories about what people learned and how pleased they were to have gone to a block party.
